Appointments / 5 Top Tips - what to bring & wear //

So you're excited. You can't wait for Saturday. You have booked your first appointment to try dresses here at the boutique, but you're thinking, what should I wear and take to my appointment?

Here are my top five tips on what to wear and bring along to an appointment at Julia Tasker Bridal Couture.

1 // Easy to remove.
You'll probably want to try many of our beautiful dresses, so wear clothing that is easy to remove. Tight skinny jeans can sometimes be problematic.

2 // Bra.
A strapless bra is best, preferably one that has removable straps and in a white or nude colour. Strapless bras are great for when trying strapless dresses, but bra straps always come in handy when trying a dress that is semi unstructured and where a little support may be required. If you don't have a strapless bra, no problem, the straps can be pushed down inside the dresses.

3 // Heels.
I love heels and mostly wear a 4" heel, often to the surprise of brides who wonder how I manage to wear them all day on a busy Saturday - it's what you're used to. So bring along shoes of a similar height to what you feel comfortable in or what you plan to wear on your wedding day. Heels suit most dresses but if you would prefer to go for a lower heel, I would advise no less than a kitten heel of 1 1/2" - 2". I think everyone walks better in some sort of heel.

4 // Jewellery.
Wear little jewellery if possible - engagement rings I love to see, but large bracelets and necklaces are not preferable as these can catch the skirts or sleeves of the dresses when trying them on.

5 // Faking it.
Fake tan and heavy makeup. OK so I love a healthy glow like most ladies but it's best not to fake tan before your appointment. In some cases, fake tan can leave marks on the dresses. Ooouch!

Some final points //

  • Bring along some inspirational wedding pictures. Coming armed with magazine clippings and Pinterest images of dresses and your wedding theme, gives me a great insight into what type of wedding gown you are looking for.
  • If you have long hair like Rapunzel, bring a hair-bobble with you. It's easier to see the neck-line of dresses if your hair is tied up out of the way.
